Come Wine With Us™ South Africa expanded not only in the size of its community but also to exploring different beverages and brands. Made with the lovers of all things food, drink and travel in mind, Come Wine With Us™ has evolved into Come Join Us® South Africa, which promises to offer bespoke experiences to anyone who never wants to do the same thing twice.
Founder and host, Sybil Doms, not only studied at Banhoek Valley’s Institute of Culinary Arts (ICA), but she also spent time learning from some of the industry’s best-known chefs. Following this, she was awarded a prestigious Sommelier Scholarship at Waddesdon Manor in the UK, which she completed before returning to South Africa. Before returning to her roots of food, travel and wine, Sybil enjoyed the experience as a freelance fashion, décor and food stylist.
The Come Join Us podcast is all about chatting to likeminded people, foodies, as well as masters of their craft, being it winemakers, master distillers or anybody we find really interesting. A proudly South African podcast where we would like to introduce the world to real people, real talent and real conversation.

Growing up together as family friends I chat to Johan De Wet who heads up the marketing at De Westhof Wine Estate. Very well known for their world-class Chardonnays we chat about what makes Robertson so special when it comes to this specific grape variety. Travelling all over the world and keeping up with the latest technology and trends is what makes De Westhof in a class of its own.
I grew up 3km from Bon Courage on a farm in Robertson. As a teenager, I used to work at Café Maude which belonged to Maude, Jacques sister. Then after my waitering stint of working school holidays and weekends, I moved over to the wine sales. I Absolutely loved the wines I worked with which ranged from prize winner Collombard Chardonnays, MCC and Red Wines.

For the month of August Come Join Us is planning their first official “Come Travel With Us” trip to the Cape, South Africa. Part of the trip’s itinerary is a culinary food and wine experience with Chef Mynhardt Joubert in his loft apartment in Paarl. For the month of July, we will be hosting Alto wines “Like Father Like Son” food and wine pairing evenings in Johannesburg at our Come Wine With Us event happening on the 24th and 25th July at Van Der Linde Restaurant in Linden. In this specific podcast episode, we chat to head winemaker and guest at our event, Bertho van der Westhuizen about his love for RED wine as well as taking the reins from his father, previous head winemaker from Alto.
